The real reason Joao Neves arrived at PSG training driving 'humble' van in viral footage

Joao Neves made headlines this week when he turned up at Paris Saint-Germain training behind the wheel of a modest Peugeot Transit van.

A video of the incident quickly went viral on social media, with many supporters questioning why a highly paid football star would choose to drive such an ordinary car.

It has now been revealed that Neves was driving the vehicle because the boot was packed with hundreds of presents that he planned to donate to the PSG Foundation to distribute to disadvantaged children.

The footage of Neves quickly spread on social media, as fans questioned why the PSG superstar was not driving a more glamorous vehicle into the training ground. Neves earns a reported €175,000 per week and was spotted driving a white 2021 Peugeot Partner van, which is believed to be worth roughly $10,000.

It soon emerged that the real motive behind his 'humble' gesture was that the 21-year-old wanted to make a charitable donation and make a difference to the local community.

As reported by PSG influencer Djaameel, the Portugal international was not looking for attention or publicity, but simply to use his position to give back.

"For info, João Neves did indeed arrive at the Campus in a van, but there was a reason behind all that. A reason that commands even more respect and demonstrates what a remarkable human being he is," he wrote on social media.

"The double European champion had hundreds of items in the back of his van that he donated to the charitable works of the PSG Foundation!

"This just goes to show how incredible, humble, and team-spirited he is."

Joao Neves set for landmark appearance this weekend

Neves will look to make headlines for his football when Paris Saint-Germain host Monaco in their Ligue 1 fixture on Friday night.

The Portugal international missed the recent 2-2 draw against Lille due to illness but is expected to be back in the squad this weekend.

If he is fit enough to play, Neves will make his 100th appearance for PSG since he joined the club from Benfica two years ago. During his brief spell in the French capital, he has established himself as a key part of Luis Enrique's side thanks to his hard work and determination in the heart of midfield.
