Newcastle set for another major rejection as next transfer target 'decides' to join Liverpool over them

Newcastle United are having a frustrating transfer window.

Newcastle United are reportedly facing another rejection as their nightmare transfer window continues.

So far this summer, the Magpies, who are returning to the Champions League in the new season, have signed Anthony Elanga for €61.40 million, Aaron Ramsdale on loan and Antonito Cordero on a free.

Despite adding three new players, Newcastle have already been rejected by multiple transfer targets.

For example, striker Hugo Ekitike opted to join Liverpool ahead of moving to the North East.

Meanwhile, RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko appears to favour a move to Manchester United instead of Newcastle. They have also missed out on players like Bryan Mbeumo, Joao Pedro and James Trafford.

The Magpies are looking to bring in a new striker after Alexander Isak expressed a desire to explore a move away.

Newcastle have since been linked with the likes of Ollie Watkins, Lois Openda, Nicolas Jackson and Yoane Wissa.

Moving away from the attack, it has previously been suggested that Eddie Howe is also looking to strengthen his defence.

The Magpies were linked with Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, who could leave Selhurst Park this summer as his contract is set to expire when the 25/26 season comes to a close.

According to the BBC, Newcastle made three bids to sign Guehi in the 2024 summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, during this year's January window, Tottenham Hotspur reportedly launched a £70 million bid to sign the defender, but their advances were rejected.

Guehi stayed and went on to lift the FA Cup after they beat Manchester City in the final at Wembley.

However, it has now been reported that Guehi has a preferred destination if he is to leave Palace, and it's more bad news for Newcastle.

The Mirror claimed that Guehi, 25, would prefer a move to Liverpool if Palace decide to sell him this summer. The Eagles have set a price tag of around £40 million.

It has been stated that the England international is 'happy at Palace and would be willing to see out the last 12 months of his contract'.

Guehi is likely to be involved when Palace take on Liverpool in the FA Community Shield final at Wembley this weekend.
