Fabrizio Romano has dropped a major bombshell about the future of Mathys Tel amid links to several of the top Premier League clubs.

With deadline day of the January transfer window rapidly approaching, fans will carefully watching their clubs to see who could still come through the door for the second half of the season.

Perhaps the hottest name in transfer news at the minute is Bayern Munich forward Tel, who has attracted interest from several of the top clubs in the world.

And now, transfer expert Romano has revealed the latest news on Tel's future, and one Premier League club is not going to be happy.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Aston Villa are among the clubs said to be interested in signing Tel this month, but it was believed that Tottenham Hotspur boasted the best chance of securing his signature.

However, in a shocking update, Romano confirmed that after having face to face talks with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, the 19-year-old has decided that he will reject the London club's offer and consider moves elsewhere.

Writing on social media platform X, Romano revealed: "BREAKING: Mathys Tel’s current decision is to reject Tottenham proposal.

"Despite willingness to sign him for €60m package and face-to-face talks, Tel has informed Spurs about his decision.

"Barring any surprises, Tel won’t join Spurs… more PL clubs are on it now."

In a follow up post, Romano added that Tel is still open to leaving Bayern Munich this month, either as part of a loan deal or on a permanent basis.

Should the Frenchman make a move, the Premier League remains the most likely destination, as all other English clubs pursuing Tel reportedly remain in the race.

Romano wrote: "Mathys Tel and his agent are in Munich together to assess all options after rejecting Spurs proposal.

"Tottenham will explore other targets while Tel will consider other bids for loan/permanent move.

"Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Aston Villa all in contact."

Tel has made just 14 appearances for Bayern Munich this season, with almost all of them coming as a substitute, and is yet to score a goal in the current campaign.

Since joining the German side from Rennes in July 2022, the striker has scored 16 goals across 83 appearances.
