Serie A giants 'make contact with Manchester United' over Mason Greenwood transfer as Sir Jim Ratcliffe weighs up three options

Serie A giants 'make contact with Manchester United' over Mason Greenwood transfer as Sir Jim Ratcliffe weighs up three options

The forward is currently on loan at Spanish side Getafe.

Manchester United have now been contacted by a Serie A giant over Mason Greenwood, it has been claimed.

Greenwood came through the youth team ranks at Old Trafford, but it appears unlikely he will continue his career at United.

The 22-year-old is currently on loan at Getafe, where he has scored 10 goals in 34 appearances across all competitions for the Spanish side.

Greenwood's current deal at United runs until the summer of 2025, though the Old Trafford club do have the option to extend that deal by a further 12 months.

Getafe are keen to bring Greenwood back to the club next season, though it is thought United will be seeking a transfer fee of some £40m to make the move a permanent one.

Manchester United's new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has remained coy on the situation, adding how he will assess the situation surrounding Greenwood in the summer.

“It’s quite clear we have to make a decision," he said earlier this year.

"The process will be to understand the facts, not the hype, and then try to come to a fair decision based on values — is he a good guy or not and answer whether could he play sincerely for Manchester United well and would we be comfortable with it and would the fans be comfortable with it?”

Greenwood last played for United in January 2022 - and now another potential destination for him aside from Getafe has emerged.

According to The Athletic, Italian side Napoli have contacted United over a potential deal for Greenwood.

Getafe would like to bring Greenwood back for a second loan, but United's first preference would be to sell the forward.

The Old Trafford club has also not ruled out another loan spell for Greenwood, providing the loan fee they would receive is acceptable.

The prospect of him being reintegrated into the United squad has also not been completed ruled out, to complete the three options on the table for United regarding Greenwood.

It remains to be seen what will happen and it will likely become clearer when the summer transfer window opens and progresses.
