Man Utd 'make official approach' to sign star forward who was recommended by Ralf Rangnick

Manchester United have contacted the player's entourage.

Manchester United have 'made an official approach' to sign a star forward who was recommended by Ralf Rangnick.

Man United have recruited ahead of the 2025/26 season following the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5 million.

The Red Devils remain in the market for new talent, with Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo high on Ruben Amorim's transfer wish-list.

A new No.9 is also thought to be a priority this summer following the form of Rasmus Hojlund last season.

Hojlund, who cost Man United £72 million, scored just four goals in his side's woeful Premier League campaign.

Sporting CP's Viktor Gyokeres and Napoli's Victor Osimhen are among the players Man United are believed to be keeping tabs on.

Amorim seems hellbent on reinforcing his forward options, with the club making contact with Christopher Nkunku's entourage in recent days to discuss the possible terms of a transfer.

That's according to French outlet L’Equipe, who claim no bid has yet been submitted but Man United are interested in luring him to Old Trafford.

What Ralf Rangnick said about Christopher Nkunku

Nkunku has been on Man United's radar before as Rangnick, who held an interim role at the club, put forward the Frenchman as a transfer target.

Rangnick identified the 27-year-old when he was plying his trade in Germany with RB Leipzig,

"There was no such [transfer] dossier, and it was never wanted by the club," he told Bild.

"That's why we were already discussing players like Josko Gvardiol and Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig. Those were names that were realistic."

Man United's board refused to sanction the transfer, with Nkunku eventually joining Chelsea in the summer of 2023.

He joined the Stamford Bridge outfit for £52 million.

Nkunku, however, has largely failed to impress at Chelsea, having scored just six league goals in his two seasons in England.

Despite his form in the Premier League, Man United are keen on signing him and hope to acquire his services despite having no European football to offer.

Man United will be without European fixtures next season after finishing 15th in the table.

They also missed out on Champions League qualification after losing to Tottenham in last season's Europa League final.

Nkunku weighed in with 14 goals across all competitions last season, including seven goals in Chelsea's triumphant Conference League campaign.

And he was prolific for Leipzig, scoring 70 goals in 172 games for the Bundesliga outfit.
