Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has named Manchester United's two top midfield targets this summer as Sir Jim Ratcliffe looks to continuing rebuilding Erik ten Hag's squad.

United have been one of the most active Premier League clubs in the summer transfer window so far.

They have already signed forward Joshua Zirkzee in a £36.5m move from Bologna, with Leny Yoro also joining in a deal worth up to £62m with Lille – with United beating Real Madrid to the highly-rated defender.

A number of senior players have also left the club including Anthony Martial, Raphael Varane, Donny van de Beek and most recently Mason Greenwood, who joined Marseille in a £26.7m transfer on Friday.

United remain in talks to sign several other targets, with the club reportedly submitting a £29.5m bid for Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt, which has been since been rejected by the German club.

The club are also keen to recruit midfield reinforcements for Ten Hag ahead of the new season and transfer guru Romano has now confirmed the two players most likely to sign for the Red Devils.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano confirmed United have contacted Monaco to discuss the availability of midfielder Youssouf Fofana as well as right-back Vanderson.

But the more likely signings remain PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte and Sofyan Amrabat, who spent last season on loan at United from Fiorentina.

"What I'm hearing, Manchester United keep mentioning internally the names of Manuel Ugarte and Sofyan Amrabat," said Romano.

"For Amrabat, they didn't trigger the buy option [in the loan deal] but can discuss different terms with Fiorentina. That remains a possibility.

"With Ugarte, they remain in negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain and they have an agreement with the player."

United supporters have given a mixed response to the news, with some unhappy with the club potentially re-signing Amrabat on a permanent deal.

"It has to be Ugarte, Amrabat is [Scott] McTomimay level," wrote one fan on X.

Another added: "Amrabat should be going back to Fiorentina, he's done here."

However, others were more positive about the potential double midfield signing.

"We're cooking," posted one supporter.

While another wrote: "We are so back."

United lost 1-0 to Rosenborg in their opening pre-season game last week before beating Rangers 2-0 at Murrayfield on Saturday.

They next face rivals Arsenal at SoFi Stadium in California in the early hours of Sunday morning in their opening game of their pre-season tour of the United States.
