Man Utd and Liverpool set to battle over same £34m player as Jorge Mendes reveals talks

Manchester United and Liverpool are going head-to-head to sign a superstar winger, according to reports, as they look to rebuild for the 2026/27 campaign.

It's been a relatively slow start to the summer transfer window for both teams.

Man United have made three senior additions to their squad, including Karl Darlow, Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, while Liverpool have only captured winger Victor Munoz for £35 million from Osasuna.

Naturally, with the two of English football's biggest clubs competing in the Champions League, it's common for them to battle for some of the same players.

Earlier in July, it was revealed that United and Liverpool were vying to sign Roma midfielder Manu Kone after his exceptional Serie A campaign.

Roma are reportedly looking to cash in on the Frenchman amid financial problems, with the Premier League emerging as a likely destination for the 25-year-old.

But Kone - who starred under Didier Deschamps at the World Cup for France - isn't the only player being targeted by the Red Devils and the Merseyside giants.

Man United and Liverpool submit enquiries for Francisco Conceicao

According to Italian outlet Gazzetta, Juventus are looking to cash in on talented winger Francisco Conceicao after agreeing to sign Bosnian wonderkid Kerim Alajbegovic from Juventus for a deal that could reach €40 million (£34 million).

A significant investment for an 18-year-old with just 44 senior appearances under his belt, but his pending big-money arrival could be offset by the sale of Portuguese star Conceicao.

The same report claims that super agent Jorge Mendes has already held talks with his client about the future of the 23-year-old after Man United and Liverpool submitted 'enquiries' for him.

Once regarded as one of Europe's most promising wingers after rising through the ranks at Porto, Conceicao's fledgling career has stalled in recent years.

The 21-time Portuguese international produced just nine goal involvements in 42 appearances for the Italian giants last term, striking just once in nine Champions League matches.

Juve are unsurprisingly frustrated with his lack of end product and are willing to sell him for between €40-50 million.

Conceicao predominantly plays down the right flank, with Liverpool potentially seeing him as a replacement for Mohamed Salah.

Man United, meanwhile, already have Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo jostling for a place on the right, presenting the former Ajax star a chance to compete for a role in Michael Carrick's starting lineup.

Conceicao would need to recapture the form he showed for Portugal at Euro 2024 to become a success at either club, with Roberto Martinez once laxing lyrical about his talent.

Speaking after he scored a last-gasp winner from the bench against the Czech Republic in June 2024, Martinez said: "Francisco is an example of what it means to deserve to be in the team and be prepared to help the group as well.

"He has incredible maturity, he has a scent for danger inside the area and he showed it.

"For a coach, seeing him come off the bench and show what he showed is very important.”
