Ruben Amorim 'chooses' ex-Championship midfielder as Bruno Fernandes replacement with former club raided

Bruno Fernandes has been linked with a move away from Manchester United.

Ruben Amorim has reportedly picked out his preferred player to replace Bruno Fernandes.

After another dismal season at United, captain Fernandes has recently been linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

It has been claimed that Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal want to make him their latest high-profile signing and are prepared to hand him a lucrative £65 million-a-year contract.

According to Chris Wheeler of the Daily Mail, Fernandes' agent, Miguel Pinho, held positive discussions with Al Hilal chiefs at the Four Seasons hotel while his client was over in the Far East for United's post-season tour of Malaysia and Hong Kong.

As a result, it has now been reported that United are looking at potential candidates to replace their talisman.

According to Portuguese news outlet A Bola, via Sport Witness, United could consider signing Pedro Goncalves from Amorim's former side, Sporting Clube de Portugal.

During Amorim's time in charge, Goncalves operated the left-sided No.10 role in the manager's system, a role that Fernandes has played several times.

Under Amorim, Goncalves managed 81 goals and 57 assists in 190 matches for Sporting.

The 26-year-old was previously on Wolverhampton Wanderer's books, when they were in the Championship.

Goncalves' only appearance for Wolves came in a 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Cup.

Speaking recently, Amorim spoke about Fernandes' future at United.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Amorim said: "My feeling is that Bruno wants to stay. He is saying no to a lot of things.

"The club can find other ways to make money. I feel he wants to stay for sure with Man United, you never know."

Aside from Fernandes, the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee and Kobbie Mainoo have all been linked with a move away from United ahead of the summer transfer window.
