Florian Wirtz informs Xabi Alonso of his next club amid Man City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich interest

The Germany and Bayer Leverkusen star has been linked with a potential move to a Champions League side.

Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz has reportedly informed head coach Xabi Alonso of which club he wants to join this summer.

Wirtz, 22, has been pivotal to Leverkusen’s success over the past two seasons, having registered 18 goals and 20 assists in the 2023/24 double-winning campaign, which saw Alonso’s side go unbeaten in the Bundesliga.

This term, Leverkusen have not hit the heights of last year, as Bayern Munich have already won the Bundesliga title.

However, Wirtz has been a shining light in an otherwise disappointing campaign for Alonso’s side and has still managed to produce 16 goals and 13 assists in 43 appearances in all competitions.

And as a result, some of Europe’s top clubs are reportedly keen on signing him this summer.

Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid have all reportedly shown interest in the 22-year-old.

However, what club is the player’s preference?

As reported by German outlet BILD on Tuesday (May 6), the Germany international, who boasts 29 caps for his country, has already made up his mind on his future destination.

The outlet reports that Wirtz “has now informed Bayer coach Xabi Alonso that he doesn't want to move to Real or City. He only wants to move to Munich".

Of course, this will likely not come as a surprise as Bayern often poach their rivals’ best players, with previous examples including Robert Lewandowski and Mario Götze arriving from Borussia Dortmund over the past decade.

BILD also claimed that Wirtz’s family have “reached a fundamental agreement” with Bayern – although the player is contracted to Leverkusen until June 2027 and could warrant a transfer fee of around £102m according to TEAMtalk.

Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany dubbed Wirtz a "game-changer" ahead of the all-Bundesliga clash in the Champions League round of 16 back in March.

Kompany said: "He remains a game-changer. And you can't replace players like him one-to-one. It has to be done collectively or with a slightly different tactical approach."

If Wirtz does move to Bayern he will link up with his fellow Germany international Jamal Musiala, who he has often been compared with throughout his career.
