Real Madrid may have already made their decision on Xabi Alonso's future following their 2-1 loss to Manchester City.
On Wednesday night, Real Madrid welcomed Manchester City to the Bernabeu for a crucial fixture in the Champions League.
Heading into the match, pressure on Real Madrid manager Alonso was reaching boiling point amid reports that the Spaniard has lost the dressing room.
Unfortunately for Alonso, the match didn't go to plan as, despite taking the lead, the hosts lost the match 2-1 thanks to goals from Nico O'Reilly and star striker Erling Haaland.

And in the wake of the result, it appears that Real Madrid may have already made their decision regarding Alonso's future at the club.

Initially, the match got off to a good start for Real Madrid as Rodrygo found the opening goal in the 28th minute of the match.
However, just minutes later O'Reilly found the equaliser while a penalty converted by Haaland sealed the victory for the visitors, leaving them second in the Champions League table.
Meanwhile for Alonso, the result means that he is likely to lose his position as Real Madrid manager, with a report from Team Talk claiming that a positive result against City was his last chance of staying in charge of the Spanish giants.
It claims that, with Real Madrid picking up up just six points from a possible 15 in their last five La Liga games, club officials held an emergency meeting regarding Alonso's position.
Although the decision was split, it was decided that Alonso would stay in charge for the match against City, but a failure to achieve a positive result would see him relieved of his duties.

Should Alonso be sacked in the coming days, speculation will immediately start to emerge regarding his future managing another club.
Amid the mounting pressure on Liverpool manager Arne Slot following the Premier League champions' recent form and the controversy surrounding star player Mohamed Salah, Alonso will no doubt be linked with a return to Anfield if he is dismissed by Real Madrid.
However, following Liverpool's win over Inter Milan in their Champions League meeting on Tuesday night, it remains to be seen if the pressure on Slot will now begin to die down.
