Bryan Mbeumo moves step closer to Man Utd as 'record bid' submitted for replacement

Manchester United could finally get their man after a major development at Brentford.

Manchester United could finally be about to sign Bryan Mbeumo after a major development at Brentford.

United have made no secret of their desire to sign Mbeumo, 25, who has 70 goals in almost 250 appearances for the Bees.

He averages a goal or assist every other game in the Premier League and has been a United target from the start of the summer following their disastrous campaign last term, in which they finished 15th.

United have had two bids rejected for Mbeumo, who is reportedly 'frustrated' at the lengthy transfer negotiations between the two sides.

It is a summer of change for Brentford, who have lost influential manager Thomas Frank to Tottenham and captain Christian Norgaard to Arsenal. Selling Mbeumo would be a significant blow for new Bees boss Keith Andrews, but the Cameroon international is a top target for United.

According to a new report in the Daily Mail, Brentford are moving to secure attacking reinforcements before Mbeumo's potential exit.

They are said to have now made a club-record bid for former Chelsea starlet Omari Hutchinson, who is now at Championship club Ipswich.

The winger impressed last season despite Ipswich's immediate relegation from the Premier League, and played an important role in England's successful U21 Euro campaign this summer - with Lee Carsley's side victorious in the tournament in Slovakia.

The Daily Mail claim Brentford have submitted a £35m bid to Ipswich to sign Hutchinson, although the BBC report that bid was rejected as the cost was spread over a number of years.

It is further claimed that the £35m figure matches a relegation release clause in Hutchinson's contract, however that must be paid up front and the clause has since expired.

Brentford could return with a secondary bid for Hutchinson, while Nottingham Forest and Everton are also credited with interest in the winger, who scored three times in 32 appearances for Ipswich last season.

United will watch the developments closely, and will feel more optimistic of prising Mbeumo away from the Gtech Community Stadium if Brentford do manage to land a ready-made replacement.
