Newcastle United have reportedly issued a final transfer ultimatum to unsettled striker Alexander Isak just hours after admirers Liverpool lost the Community Shield.

Isak, who still has three years left on his current deal at St James' Park, has expressed a desire to make a move away from the Magpies after his best season for the club - where he scored 27 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions.

Isak was part of the side which beat Liverpool in last season's Carabao Cup final and he also helped the club finish fifth in the Premier League, with the Magpies set to play Champions League football this season.

Isak first joined Newcastle back in 2022 for a reported club record fee of £63m from Spanish side Real Sociedad and has netted 62 goals in 109 games across three seasons since then.

But the Sweden international did not feature for Newcastle on the club's pre-season tour in Asia after expressing a desire to move to pastures new.

Premier League champions Liverpool are keen to bring Isak to Anfield and reportedly had a bid worth £110m rejected by Newcastle at the start of August.

Liverpool have had a busy summer transfer window with plenty of ins and outs at Anfield for Arne Slot's second season in charge.

More than £250m has been spent so far this summer by Liverpool on signing Bayer Leverkusen duo Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth, Valencia's Giorgi Mamardashvili and Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.

While so far Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jarell Quansah, Luis Diaz, Tyler Morton, Darwin Nunez, and Caoimhin Kelleher have all moved on.

Liverpool started the new campaign with a defeat to Crystal Palace in the Community Shield on Sunday, losing the season's curtain raiser on penalties at Wembley.

Ekitike put Liverpool ahead at Wembley before Jean-Philippe Mateta's penalty got the Eagles level, before Frimpong put the Merseyside club back in front.

Ismaila Sarr netted Palace's second equaliser in the second half as the encounter went to a penalty shootout following a 2-2 draw.

And Palace won 3-2 on penalties after goalkeeper Dean Henderson saved from Harvey Elliott and Alexis Mac Allister, while Mo Salah blazed his spot kick over.

Will Liverpool bid again for Alexander Isak?

Liverpool are yet to make an increased offer for Isak, who is training away from the rest of Newcastle's squad.

And the Magpies have now given a final ultimatum to Isak this summer which makes things crystal clear for the striker.

According to the Newcastle Chronicle, the club has told Isak that an increased bid must arrive if the Magpies are to sell their star player.

"There has been talk of £150m but others on the agent circuit have suggested that £130m plus add ons may yet offer a breakthrough," added the report.

Isak has reportedly been told that if there is no 'serious offer' for him, then there will be no transfer.

And until then, Isak has also been given the chance to train ahead of Newcastle's opening fixture against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail report that Liverpool are planning to return with a second bid for Isak, but only after Newcastle have signed a replacement for the forward.
