Martin Odegaard has just produced a glorious backheel assist to teammate Michel Vlap to open the scoring against AZ Alkmaar in the Eredivisie game today.

The Norwegian youngster played a one-two with the Dutchman and threaded him through beautifully with a deft touch in the tightest of spaces.

And he's continued in the same vein in his nine outings this term. The number ten's talents have never been in question; that's why every top European club under the sun took an interest in him, but inconsistency and a difficult pathway to the first-team at the Bernabeu saw his rapid rise take a bit of a hault.

But fair play to him, he's been very impressive of late, with his sumptuous assist today following on from a virtuoso performance for Norway Under 21's earlier this month.

Odegaard tormented Germany all night, scoring a sublime solo effort before superbly assisting Norway's third goal with a pinpoint pass that peak David Beckham or Andrea Pirlo would have been proud of.

It's going to be an immensely difficult task for him to break into the Real side once his loan spell with Heerenveen is done and dusted, with so many high-quality players ahead of him in the ranks.

However, when asked about a potential new offer being tabled, Odegaard said his new contract now lasts "a little longer than 2018, at least" he said via ESPN.

"I do not want to say so much about it at the moment. It may come out when it comes out, so I will not stand here and talk more about it," he added.

Can Odegaard make the grade at Real?
