Kevin De Bruyne 'caused' freak training injury to Napoli teammate who had to sit out session

A Napoli star has already been feeling Kevin De Bruyne's wrath in training after his move from Manchester City.

Kevin De Bruyne inadvertently caused an injury to one of his new Napoli teammates during a recent training session, it has been revealed.

After his trophy-laden 10-year spell with Manchester City came to an end, De Bruyne joined the Italian champions upon the expiration of his contract - penning a deal until June 2027.

The Belgian has taken on the No.11 shirt and reunites with compatriot Romelu Lukaku, who he has known since they were 13 years of age.

De Bruyne has been getting to grips with the style of Antonio Conte's side, who have faced Arezzo and Catanzaro in friendly games.

Next up is a meeting with French side Brest on Sunday but Napoli are dealing with a slight injury because of De Bruyne's doing.

As per journalist Salvatore Amoroso, goalkeeper Alex Meret was "absent" from training on Friday 1 August because a shot from De Bruyne "caused a slight wrist issue".

The post on X included two pitches of Meret, who had his glove off on his left wrist after suffering the painful problem.

De Bruyne has demonstrated his powerful shot with either foot throughout his career and two-time Serie A winner Meret found out the hard way.

When it became apparent that his contract was not being renewed by City, De Bruyne was linked with a whole host of clubs - particularly those in the MLS and the Saudi Pro League.

But Napoli presented an opportunity that the 34-year-old could not turn down and he hopes to add to his extensive medal collection in Italy.

"When I had the whole project in front of me and then the fact that I could play in Italy and still play at a high level was exciting for me,” De Bruyne told media in a press conference.

“I have been in the Premier League for so long and in the end I made the decision to go out of England. I have done what I have done and in the end I am a Man City player for life. It was also with the way that it ended for me, I thought, it is time to find a new challenge.”

“Napoli already are champions but they are still improving their squad,” De Bruyne added. “I am hoping that I can help the team grow and I will also learn from them, a new way of playing, a new competition.”
