A Juventus star has finally spoken out after US President Donald Trump made a comment about transgender athletes during a meeting a The White House.
In the early hours of Thursday morning, Serie A giants Juventus got their Club World Cup campaign off to the perfect start, beating Al Ain 5-0 in Washington DC's Audi Field..
While in the American capital city, several members of the team were welcomed into The White House to meet with President Trump, including US internationals Timothy Weah and Weston McKennie.

The meeting immediately attracted headlines as Trump made his guests uncomfortable, asking them questions about transgender participants in women’s sports.
And now, one of the players who attended the meeting has spoken out to give his thoughts on the controversial moment.

During the 16 minute meeting between Trump and the Juventus squad, the American president didn't hold back on speaking about highly controversial political topics, discussing a possible attack on Iran and transgender athletes.

And it appears that this hasn't gone down particularly well with the players, as Weah admitted he found the meeting to be pretty weird when speaking about it after their 5-0 win.
“It was all a surprise to me, honestly — they told us that we have to go and I had no choice but to go,” Weah said, via The Athletic.
“I was caught by surprise, honestly. It was a bit weird. When he started talking about the politics with Iran and everything, it’s kind of like, I just want to play football man.”
Trump made sure to seek out both Weah and McKennie during the meeting to wish them good luck for the competition.

“We have two great American players. Where are you, my American players?” said Trump as he looked for them both.
“Fantastic, so good luck,” he said, shaking their hands. “I hope you’re going to be the best two players on the field.”

However, following Weah's comments, it appears that he didn't exactly enjoy the meeting with the American President, and it's likely that this feeling was shared by teammate McKennie who previously criticised Trump in June 2020.

During the Black Lives Matter protests, McKennie told German media outlet Bild: “I don’t think that Trump is the right one for the job as the president.
"I stand by these words. I believe he doesn’t understand the responsibility he has for the entire country. I think he’s ignorant. I don’t support him a bit. I don’t think he’s a man to stand by his word. In my eyes, you can call him racist.”
