As it stands, the Serie A remains tightly contested at the top of the table with just two points separating Napoli, who are in first, and Juventus, who are currently in sixth, while four teams are tied from second to fifth in the table, each with 25 points.

And as Napoli faced off against fellow title challengers Inter Milan and it was McTominay who stepped up and opened the scoring in the match with a crucial goal.

Reacting to the moment, Italian outlet Gazetta wrote: "Sir Alex Ferguson used to say that if there is a big match, it is impossible for Scott McTominay's name to be missing from the starting lineup.

"Not only is it unthinkable that Scott could be left out, but also that he won't leave his mark as only great champions can do.

"The city is already in love with McTominay, and the passion is reciprocated."

Although Inter later equalised through midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu, the shared points kept Napoli atop the Serie A table.

Posting on X, one fan wrote: "Scott McTominay winning Serie A in his first season in Italy is gonna be amazing."

Another added: "He's killing it over in Italy. So happy for him."

While one went as far as to compare him to French icon and World Cup winner Zinedine Zidane, writing: "McTominay moves like Zidane in the Serie A man."
