Season Highlights Of Kalidou Koulibaly Shows He's A Great Signing

Koulibaly became Chelsea's second signing of the summer on Saturday morning, joining Raheem Sterling, and it looks to be a great transfer.

On Saturday morning, Chelsea announced the signing of Kalidou Koulibaly, and the centre backs highlights from last season show how good a move it is for the Blues.

Chelsea had been slow to get involved in the transfer market this summer, following the sale of the club from Roman Abramovich to Todd Boehly.

Finally on Wednesday, the club announced Raheem Sterling as their first signing of the summer, from Manchester City for £50 million, becoming the club's highest paid player.

After deciding against signing Cristiano Ronaldo, Thomas Tuchel's team are now focusing on strengthening the defence, after losing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christiansen, to Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively.

On Saturday morning, at 6 am, the club announced that Koulibaly would be their first addition at centre back, signing a four year deal for £34 million.

The Senegal defender ended eight years at Napoli, where he earned a reputation as one of the greatest defenders of the generation and had been linked with a move to England on several occasions.

A highlights video of the 31-year-old's 21/22 season in Serie A has gone viral, and it's easy to see why Chelsea fans are excited by their new man.

Speaking after his move became official, the former Genk defender said, "I’m very happy to be here with this team at Chelsea.

"It’s a big team in the world and my dream was always to play in the Premier League. Chelsea came first to get me in 2016 but we didn’t make it.

"Now when they came to me I accepted it because they really wanted me to come to the Premier League to play for them.

"When I spoke to my good friends Edou and Jorginho they made my choice easier so I’m really happy to be with you today.

"I want to thank the fans because I saw a lot of them in London and on the plane everybody was happy for me to be here. So I want to thank them and I hope the season will be really good and we will give some good moments to the fans."

A couple of other moments of Koulibaly's defending have recently caught the attention, for differing reasons, as he found a brilliant way to stop Kylian Mbappe.

Unfortunately, he also failed to keep up with Mohamed Salah, when Napoli faced Liverpool, so September 18th could be a difficult day for him.
