Napoli defender Koulibaly is expected to sign a five-year deal with Chelsea.

Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Kalidou Koulibaly, with the defender expected to complete a move from Napoli to Stamford Bridge in the coming days.

Koulibaly, 31, is poised to sign a five-year deal with Chelsea and could become the club's first major signing of the summer, with Raheem Sterling also set to join in a £50m move from Manchester City.

Chelsea supporters are understandably excited by the prospect of signing the Senegal international, who is set to cost the Blues around £33m.

But fans of rival club Liverpool have been quick to put a downer on his arrival by highlighting Koulibaly's past struggles against Reds forward Mohamed Salah.

Koulibaly has come up against Salah on numerous occasions in both club and international football.

The pair faced each other in Italy during Salah's time at Roma, while they have also met in European football since the Egyptian's move to Anfield.

A compilation video titled 'Welcome to the Premier League Koulibaly', which features clips of Salah tormenting the defender, has gone viral on social media.

It includes footage of Salah's stunning solo goal against Napoli at Anfield in 2018 which sealed a crucial 1-0 win for Liverpool that sent them through to knockout stages of the Champions League, which they would go on to win that season.

Despite struggling to contain Salah, Koulibaly's Napoli have held their own against Liverpool in recent years.

In the 2019-20 season of the Champions League, Napoli beat Jurgen Klopp's side 2-0 in Italy before drawing 1-1 at Anfield in the group stage.

Koulibaly has also come out on top in international football in recent months, with Senegal beating Salah's Egypt in both the Africa Cup of Nations final and the World Cup play-off earlier this year.

Their rivalry is now set to continue in the Premier League, should Koulibaly complete his move to Stamford Bridge as expected.
