Cristiano Ronaldo is set to be joined by another former Manchester United teammate at Al Nassr.

Cristiano Ronaldo is set to be reunited with former Manchester United teammate David de Gea at Al Nassr, who are said to be insistent on signing him.

De Gea is a free agent after his contract at United expired in June. The club had been locked in discussions with the Spaniard an extended period but could not come to an agreement on terms.

United allowed his deal to run down before signing Andre Onana as their new No.1 goalkeeper in between the sticks, with De Gea issuing an emotional statement on his exit.

That was on the 8 July but fast forward a month and De Gea is still without a club. However, there are still options on the table for the former Atletico Madrid man.

According to MARCA, Real Madrid had explored the possibility of finally signing De Gea when it emerged that Thibaut Courtois had torn his ACL.

Instead, they will sign Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan from Chelsea. The 32-year-old also has strong interest from Bayern Munich, who recently let Yann Sommer leave for Inter Milan and have regular shotstopper Manuel Neuer on the sidelines following a broken leg suffered while skiing in December.

Al Nassr are pushing hard for De Gea though and want him to be their first-choice 'keeper for the new season.

The transfer window for Saudi clubs is open until September 20, the final date for De Gea to commit to Nassr.

Should he choose to move to the Middle East, he would link up with Ronaldo and Alex Telles, who he shared a dressing room with at United.

Luis Castro's side have also brought in Sadio Mane and Marcelo Brozovic in a bid to win the SPL title.

They finished behind winners Al Ittihad last term but claimed the Arab Club Champions Cup trophy on Saturday thanks to a brace from Ronaldo in a 2-1 win over Al Hilal.
