Forgotten Premier League flop is rivalling Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema for the Saudi Pro League Golden Boot

Forgotten Premier League flop is rivalling Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema for the Saudi Pro League Golden Boot

A former Spurs flop is the shock rival to Ronaldo in the Saudi Pro League Golden Boot race.

A former Tottenham Hotspur flop has emerged as a shock rival to Cristiano Ronaldo and Aleksander Mitrovic for the Saudi Pro League Golden Boot.

Given the influx of star strikers making the move to the Saudi Pro League this year, there were always going to be several high-profile contenders for the honour of finishing as the league's top scorer.

His career goalscoring record meant Ronaldo was always going to be the favourite for the award and he has lived up to expectations, netting 16 goals in just 15 games for Al Nassr.

Just one goal behind him is former Fulham and Newcastle United striker Mitrovic, who has scored 15 for the league leaders Al Hilal.

But it's the current third place who is the most unlikely candidate of all.

Former Spurs player Georges-Kevin N'Koudou joined Pro League side Darmac FC from Besiktas back in August and has scored 14 goals already.

It's a remarkable number given his side are trailing the league leaders by 20 points already and he actually sits second in overall goal contributions this season with 19, behind only Ronaldo.

N'Koudou signed for Spurs back in 2016 in a bizarre deal that led to the resignation of then director of football Paul Mitchell.

Having initially agreed an £11 million fee for the then 21-year-old, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy intervened in the deal and secured a £1.6 million deduction.

It meant the player had to wait 30 days before officially being unveiled. Things only got worse as N'Koudou made just 11 Premier League appearances in a disastrous three-year spell in North London.

That included spells on loan at Burnley and Monaco before he eventually secured a permanent move to Turkey.

His goalscoring record didn't improve at Besiktas either as he failed to get into double figures during any of his four seasons playing for the Turkish giants.

However, a move to the Saudi Pro League seems to have paid off as he chases down arguably the best goalscorer to ever play the game in Ronaldo.
