Cristiano Ronaldo will be annoyed by what Saudi fans did in the 10th minute of Spanish Super Cup game

Cristiano Ronaldo will be annoyed by what Saudi fans did in the 10th minute of Spanish Super Cup game

The footage has gone viral.

What Saudi fans did during Thursday evening's Spanish Super Cup tie between Barcelona and Osasuna will annoy Cristiano Ronaldo.

Goals from Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal in the second half were enough to seal a comfortable 2-0 victory for Xavi's side.

They'll now face bitter rivals Real Madrid in Riyadh on Sunday evening for a chance to win their first piece of silverware of the season.

The Spanish Super Cup has been held in Saudi Arabia since 2019 after the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) struck a deal that'll earn the association $34 million per year.

It means neutrals attend games without loyalty to either team. That's something Real midfielder Toni Kroos found out during their game against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.

Kroos made several disparaging comments about the Saudi Pro League and why players choose to move there.

The Germany international believes money is the main motivator and called Gabri Veiga's transfer to Al Ahli from Celta Vigo 'embarrassing' on social media.

It saw supporters boo Kroos whenever he touched the ball and when he slipped, everyone inside the stadium cheered.

While it's all well and good trolling the World Cup winner, those inside the Al Awwal Stadium on for Barcelona's game have risked the anger of Al Nassr superstar Ronaldo.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner is the Saudi Pro League's crown jewel and believes it can become one of the world's top competitions.

Despite that, those in attendance on Thursday evening still decided to chant for Lionel Messi in the 10th minute.

Messi is Ronaldo's greatest rival and played for Barcelona until leaving for Paris Saint-Germain in 2024. His name echoed around the ground for 60 seconds despite rejecting a move to the Middle East to join Inter Miami in the MLS.

When asked about a transfer to Saudi Arabia, Messi told L'Equipe and France Football last year: "I had many offers on the table, very different ones, to be honest. Barca, but also other European clubs, Saudi Arabia.

"But we ultimately chose to come to Miami, a decision that we are happy to have taken, because we feel good here. We enjoy daily life more than before with my family.

"We can do many more things together, I can share moments with my wife and children that I missed before.

"Miami is a spectacular city, with a great climate. Furthermore, I was joined by friends, former teammates [Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets], so it's alright!"
