Toni Kroos was booed with every touch of the ball against Atletico Madrid and here's why.

Kroos came off the bench as Real Madrid beat Atletico 5-3 to book their place in the final of the Spanish Super Cup.

The game, which took place in Saudi Arabia, was 3-3 at the end of normal time, with Real scoring twice in extra time to secure their place in Sunday's final.

Kroos, who entered the fray in the 67th minute, was jeered by fans whenever he got on the ball. Supporters also cheered when he slipped making a pass.

It comes after his disparaging comments following the influx of talent to the Saudi Pro League.

The German midfielder cited money for the prime reason as to why players left Europe for the Middle East.

Fans in attendance at the Al Awwal Stadium held that against Kroos as they made their feelings clear during the fixture on Wednesday.

Kroos being booed by fans sent social media wild.

One X user wrote: "Think Toni Kroos is probably the last footballer on earth to give a f*ck about being whistled. Progressive passes are the only thing on his mind."

A second added: "So surreal watching a stadium full of people wearing Real Madrid shirts whistling Toni Kroos every time he touches the ball because he suggested players were going to Saudi Arabia for money..."

Kroos took exception to Gabri Veiga's transfer to Al Ahli from Celta Vigo as he labelled the move as "embarrassing" on social media.

He continued to criticise the Saudi Pro League in an interview, claiming the transfers revolve around money.

"It is said that the football there is ambitious, but it all revolves around money. In the end, it is a decision for money and against football," he said.

"It's starting to be difficult for the football we all know and love.

"Everyone has to make this decision for himself, as Cristiano Ronaldo decided, for example."
