A report has emerged that suggests one of Al Nassr's top earners will terminate his contract with immediate effect as Cristiano Ronaldo looks set to leave the Saudi Pro League club for a new challenge.

Earlier this week, Ronaldo dropped the biggest hint yet that his time at the Saudi club is over.

After scoring in their final game of Saudi Pro League season against Al Fateh, the 40-year-old posted a picture of himself in his Al Nassr kit alongside the message: "This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all."

FIFA president Gianni Infantino recently hinted that Ronaldo could play at the upcoming Club World Cup, despite Al Nassr failing to qualify for the competition, while former club Sporting are currently 3/1 to sign the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

Ronaldo's exit from the Saudi club could well have a domino effect on the current playing squad.

In fact, teammate Aymeric Laporte is on the verge of leaving the Riyadh-based club, according to journalist Anthony Aubes, who claims the defender's contract termination at Al Nassr is 'imminent' ahead of a move to Ligue 1 side Marseille.

Marseille are said to have made attempts to sign Laporte in the January window and have continued to make contract throughout the final stages of the season.

Earlier this month, a report from La Provence claimed Marseille were in advanced negotiations to sign the Spanish international, but the move was dependent on Roberto De Zerbi's side qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

The French side secured a spot in Europe's elite competition this month after finishing second in Ligue 1.

Last year, Laporte claimed many players who joined Saudi Pro League clubs are "dissatisfied" as he spoke about broken promises, amongst other things.

"It's a big change compared to Europe, but in the end it's all adaptation," Laporte told Spanish outlet Diario AS.

"They haven't made it easy for us. In fact, there are many players that are dissatisfied. They do look after us but not enough for my liking. That is to say, in Europe they pay you a good salary, but they take better care of you.

"I speak from my own experience and I don't know what the experience of others is like. For my part, what I have seen is that they try to bring you in, but then there is the day-to-day life and that is different."
