Micah Richards translates Romelu Lukaku's interview from Italian to English live on CBS Sports

Micah Richards translates Romelu Lukaku's interview from Italian to English live on CBS Sports

Micah Richards spent a year in Italy with Fiorentina and translated Romelu Lukaku's interviews in some hilarious scenes.

Micah Richards translated Romelu Lukaku's post-match interview from Italian into English live on CBS Sports in the latest bit of top-tier entertainment on the 'Golazo' show.

Lukaku scored a late winner for Inter Milan to draw first blood in the Champions League round of 16 tie against Porto, who had Otavio sent off in the second half.

The Belgium striker has had a lot of difficulty since returning to the San Siro in the summer but has now scored in back-to-back games, taking his tally up to five for the campaign.

The match-winner took part in a slew of post-match interviews in different languages after the triumph and one was broadcasted on CBS. Although host Kate Abdo is fluent in multiple languages, they asked Richards, who spent one year in Italy on loan at Fiorentina, to have a crack at interpreting.

The former Manchester City man was under pressure, intently listening to his earpiece and having Jamie Carragher and Thierry Henry in absolute stitches as he tried to show off his Italian.

He was able to make out that Lukaku said, "Truthfully there was satisfaction with the win because it was really important, the game and the result tonight. It was very important for the squad and for the win.

"I went through tough months with the injury but I'm happy and will do anything for the team to reach our goals until the end of the season."

Richards was accused of reading from a script but claims the sheets of paper were just his notes and that he was "brilliant" at translating.

Abdo joked that the ex England defender could be getting a call from CBS' Serie A show very soon and Richards signed off by saying, 'Ciao!' to the viewers at home.

Richards is good value on Sky Sports but he's produced even more hilarity on CBS' coverage.

In December 2021, Richards rattled through some Tuscan and Italian phrases upon the request of Matteo Bonetti, CBS' lead Serie A analyst.

He described Richards' Italian as "pretty legitimate" and then gave him a grade C.
