Footage from inside Roberto Firmino’s private farewell meal is emotional

Firmino got a loving farewell from fans at the weekend and his teammates paid tribute afterwards at a meal.

Jordan Henderson led the rest of the Liverpool team in a singalong as they said farewell to Roberto Firmino ahead of the final game of his time with the club.

It has been a tough old season for Liverpool, with the Reds well off the pace of their usual high standards under Jurgen Klopp perhaps suggesting his seven year curse has not been broken.

Until recently there had been little to cheer inside Anfield but a run of seven wins on the bounce had given them hope of still making the Champions League.

That was all but extinguished on Saturday as they drew with Aston Villa and needed a late equaliser from Firmino just to earn the point.

After eight years with the club, the Brazilian is leaving in the summer and he was given a fond farewell by the fans on his last game on Merseyside following the final whistle against Villa.

And his teammates followed that up with an emotional farewell to the forward at a private meal, with Henderson gifting him a shirt and then leading the players in song, as you can see in the video below.

Speaking at the event on Sunday Klopp said to the player, "You are so football smart, in training sessions you are the first to get [understand] the exercise.

"It's like you saw it once, 'Ah, okay, go for it'. It's really special and it makes you the player you are, with all the technical stuff, but your football brain is incredible.

"That's all good and makes you the player you are."

The shirt that he was presented with was next season's home kit, which he obviously won't get to wear on the pitch and neither James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who are also leaving.

After he was given his gift, the former Hoffenheim striker posed alongside the trophies he'd won at the club with friends, family and teammates.

In his time at Anfield Firmino has been absolutely integral to the team's success, especially playing in a front three with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

The club have won the Premier League, the FA Cup, the League Cup, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and also been a runner up on a few occasions in big competitions.

Despite the poor season for Klopp's side there is little doubt that they will be poorer for not having him around Merseyside in the future.
