Wrexham owner Rob McElhenney was reduced to tears after fans chanted his name in a wonderful moment.

McElhenney, along with fellow Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds, took over the Welsh outfit in February 2021 and have been very much involved in all proceedings.

McElhenney, who created and starred in the popular sitcom It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, was recently in town and spent time in the Turf Pub, which is a stone's throw from Wrexham's Racecourse ground.

He was watching the 1-1 draw away at Boreham Wood with friends and afterwards local band the Declan Swans performed.

One of their songs is about McElhenney and Reynolds purchasing the club and goes, "Less than a mile from the centre of town, a famous old stadium was crumbling down. No one invested so much as a penny, so bring on the Deadpool and Rob McElhenney."

Footage showed the 45-year-old, wearing his Wrexham home shirt, wiping away tears and looking incredibly emotional.

McElhenney has immersed himself into everything to do with Wrexham, having been at the Ladies' 5-2 win over Llandudno on Sunday.

He's also been involved in local projects, including a food bank set up to help those in need. And of course, he has had no problem sinking pints with supporters whenever he's been at games.

Wrexham narrowly missed out on promotion last term, losing to Grimsby Town in the play-off semi-finals and also losing the FA Trophy final to Bromley.

All the drama was captured in 'Welcome to Wrexham', a Disney+ documentary on their first season at the helm.

A second season is on the way and this time Wrexham will be hoping it covers promotion back to the promised land of the football league.

Wrexham are currently second in the league, three points behind leaders Notts County after 15 games.
