Manchester United And Bayern Munich Announce Friendly With Excellent Banter

It might be the World Cup on Thursday but club rivalries still exist in the background, ready to erupt again once the countries have stolen the limelight for a bit and Manchester United and Bayern Munich are ready to reignite theirs.

It's great this summer is a World Cup year because if you remember back to a year ago today life was all a bit depressing in that period of time between one season and the next when you pretend to care a little more about cricket and tennis than you'd normally say.

Normally we'd be watching the clock wondering when the exciting pre season friendlies were going to kick off and hoping that Sky Sports' yellow ticker started going off for some transfer story or other.

Fortunately this year we're obviously going to be treated to the delights of Russia vs Saudi Arabia and Iran vs Morocco.

However at some point that's all going to come to an end and we can start concentrating on all the high profile pre-season friendlies again.

One such match that was drawn up today is Manchester United visiting Bayern Munich at the Allianz Stadium and it was all confirmed in a brilliant Twitter exchange:

Bayern can hope all they want that United's football is better than their jokes but anyone who's seen them recently would probably tell you that's not usually the case.

Still though United with Twitter jokes, a women's team and a YouTube channel in the last few months and we're starting to think the Red Devils are becoming woke!

United and Bayern famously met in the Champions League final in 1999 at the Camp Nou with Sir Alex Ferguson's side winning the Treble thanks to their two injury time goals.

They've played eight competitive games since then with United winning just once and going out on away goals on that day.

United will be hoping they can win more than just a Twitter joke or two.
