Raphael Varane in tears after suffering nasty injury for Man United against Chelsea, World Cup spot in doubt

Man United defender Raphael Varane had to be replaced by Victor Lindelof against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Raphael Varane was in tears after suffering an injury for Manchester United against Chelsea.

Varane's time at United has been plagued by injuries and after a solid run in the side alongside new signing Lisandro Martinez at centre-back, he was forced off in the second half at Stamford Bridge.

The Frenchman was beaten to the ball by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang down the left flank and it was on the stretch where Varane appeared to do the damage to himself.

He looked absolutely distraught as he lay on the turf and pulled his shirt over his eyes while teammates consoled him.

Fortunately, the former Real Madrid was able to walk off unattended with the assistance of a stretcher, but it does not look good for Varane with the World Cup just weeks away.

Varane was a mainstay for France in their 2018 World Cup win, playing every minute across seven games as Les Bleus lifted the Jules Rimet trophy for a second time in Russia.

He also scored the opening goal for Didier Deschamps' men in the quarter-final win over Uruguay.

Varane was replaced by Victor Lindelof in the 0-0 and fans will be eagerly awaiting an update on the injury from United boss Erik ten Hag.
