Manchester United fans make same transfer suggestion after Raphael Varane injury blow

Man Utd defender Raphael Varane could be ruled out for up to six weeks through injury.

Manchester United fans think the club must pursue a move for Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo in the final days of this summer's transfer window.

It comes after Raphael Varane was potentially ruled out for up to six weeks after the Frenchman picked up an injury against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Varane, who is seen as Erik ten Hag's first choice centre-back alongside Lisandro Martinez, will likely be replaced by Victor Lindelof; a very capable replacement.

But fans believe the club should be looking to sign highly-rated French defender Todibo as the future of Harry Maguire remains uncertain.

Maguire has been strongly linked with a move, although The Times suggest United have blocked a fresh approach for the England international from West Ham amid injury problems.

Despite suggestions Maguire will stay at Old Trafford, United could spend big on Todibo in the coming days; something fans think would be a wise decision.

One fan wrote: "Jean-Clair Todibo is available for an absolute bargain. With Varane out, there is no better option out there," while another commented: "Todibo to Man United is a must."

A third said: "Now that Raphael Varane is injured Jean Todibo could be a perfect replacement for him."

A fourth wrote: "Raphael Varane could be out of action for up to SIX WEEKS through injury. THIS is why #MUFC need Todibo. Varane still has a season or two in him, but the injuries will ALWAYS be there with him. We need to be proactive and start building up his long-term successor."

A fifth added: "Varane’s injury proves how important it is to buy a CB this summer. Todibo is ready and waiting, the club cannot afford to go into the season as we currently are. Varane’s frequent injuries are a serious issue, especially as we start to play more games a week. Todibo. Needed."

Last week, it was reported Todibo was close to completing a move to United following an impressive two-year spell at Ligue 1 outfit Nice.

French publication L'Equipe suggested a deal of £34.1 million was in the works but with days to go until the window slams shut, things go could well go down to the wire.
