PSG are close to signing Gabri Veiga, Chelsea and Man City dealt massive transfer window blow

The Spanish U21 star is attracting a lot of interest from the big clubs

Paris Saint Germain are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Celta Vigo star Gabri Veiga.

Veiga is one of the highest-rated youngsters in European football after scoring 11 goals and registering four assists in 36 La Liga appearances during the 22/23 season.

The 21-year-old has since been linked with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool and PSG.

On Monday afternoon, it was reported that the French Ligue 1 champions have taken the lead in the race to sign Veiga.

According to Foot Mercato Journalist Santi Aouna, PSG have made progress to sign the Spaniard.

Aouna tweeted: “Paris has made progress in recent hours on the signing of Gabriel Veiga. Paris wants to close the file quickly and thus get ahead of the competition.

“Paris would like, ideally, to make him pass his medical examination at the end of the week.”

This will be a blow for the Premier League sides as they are likely to lose out to the Parc des Princes club.

Back in March, Celta Vigo president Carlos Mourino admitted it will be difficult to prevent Veiga’s departure.

He told Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo: “We want to keep Gabri Veiga, but it will be impossible due to his release clause. We know some bids he has, [and they’re] impossible to match.

“We will only let Gabri Veiga leave for the release clause. There are many clubs interested. Real Madrid have not asked us for him, then we don’t know if they called Gabri.”

Mourino added: “Four of the top 10 Premier League clubs asked for info about Gabri Veiga.”

Whilst Veiga himself said he will be eternally grateful for Celta Vigo.

As per Sportsfinding, he said: “For me Celta de Vigo is everything, it’s my home. It has been all this time, it is and it will be forever. I am eternally grateful because it has given me the opportunity to fulfil my dream.

“Debuting with the first team is a dream that you have always pursued. One of the best days of my life was my debut against Valencia.”
