Pro:Direct Soccer app crashes after they release limited edition Adidas Predators, they are insane

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is a huge fan of the 25th-anniversary Adidas Predator Accelerator boots.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Adidas Predator Accelerator, Pro:Direct Soccer have released a tribute to one of the most iconic football boots of all time – and well, they are a thing of beauty.

The world’s largest online football retailer, who are also celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, have dropped a special edition Predator Accelerator that is fittingly named 'the adidas x PDS'.

Complete with the classic fold-over elastic tongue, the boot combines the original black, white and red colourway from 1998 with a beautiful chrome soleplate – giving it a premium look that Steven Gerrard was on board with.

The former Liverpool midfielder, who was synonymous with wearing a pair of Preds throughout his playing career, was massively impressed after unboxing the boots on Pro:Direct Soccer's official YouTube channel.

As well as the modern day Predator soleplate, the new Adidas logo sits on top of the tongue but interestingly, the old logo lies underneath.

In total, only 998 units of the new boot [a nod to its 1998 release] were made available to buy on the Pro:Direct Soccer app at 9am on Thursday May 4 but as expected, the demand was extremely high.

In fact, a large amount of people who wanted to buy the £300 cleats were unable to access the app after it crashed because of demand.

One fan commented: "It's been 12 minutes, the loading wheel on the app is starting to hypnotize me," while another said: "I got all the way to payment and said basket was empty."

Pro:Direct responded shortly after the 9am release, saying: "We're currently experiencing high volumes of traffic on the app. Sit tight, we're working on it."

You can understand why so many people were desperate to get their hands on these.

Adidas are known for putting a modern twist on an old style but last year, they re-released their iconic Predator Mania boots, 20 years after Zinedine Zidane scored his famous strike against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League final while wearing them.

In total, only 2002 pairs of them were released in a nod to the anniversary.
