Fans are all making the same claim about Erling Haaland after the in-form Manchester City striker’s “legendary” season at the Etihad.

Haaland arrived at City last summer after completing a £51m move from Borussia Dortmund, with the Norway international having a phenomenal impact this season.

The 22-year-old Norwegian striker has scored an incredible 49 times and registered eight assists in 43 appearances for City across all competitions.

Haaland has scored an unbelievable 33 times in 29 Premier League appearances and is the clear frontrunner to lift the Golden Boot this season.

The ex-Dortmund star broke the Premier League record set by Mohamed Salah in the 2017-18 campaign after scoring in City’s win over Arsenal on Wednesday.

Haaland has been hailed for his mind-blowing campaign, with fans now arguing that the City star should lift the 2023 Ballon d’Or ahead of Lionel Messi.

Messi is widely considered the frontrunner to lift a record-extending eighth Ballon d’Or award after leading Argentina to the 2022 World Cup trophy in Qatar.

However, fans are claiming that it would be the “biggest robbery” in history if Haaland doesn’t beat Messi in the race for France Football’s sought-after prize.

“I respect Messi but Haaland is the clear Ballon d’Or winner,” one fan said.

While another added: “Unpopular opinion: Haaland not winning the Ballon d’Or would be a bigger robbery than [Robert] Lewandowski not winning it in 2021.”

A third Twitter user posted: “Forget the treble, it would be the biggest robbery and injustice in football if Erling Haaland doesn’t win the Ballon d’Or this season.”

Someone else tweeted: “If Messi wins [the] Ballon d’Or over Erling Haaland, it’s gonna be perhaps [an] even bigger robbery than 2021, 2019, 2018 and 2003.”

A fifth wrote: “Erling Haaland deserves to win this season’s Ballon d’Or. Clearly been the best player in the world.”

And a sixth commented: “This is a legendary debut campaign by Erling Haaland. He deserves [the] Ballon d’Or if we win something significant.”
