What happened to the 51 forwards West Ham signed since 2010?

Gianluca Scamacca, the 51st forward West Ham have signed since 2010, has been offloaded to Atalanta.

West ham went over 1000 days without signing a striker before bringing in Italian Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo.

He joined for a fee of £35.5 million after scoring 16 goals in Serie A the previous season and fans of the Hammers will have been hoping he would replicate that form.

However the Italy international was unable to do so, finding the net just three times in the Premier League and not featuring from March onwards.

A knee injury disrupted his one and only campaign in England, with Scamacca now returning to Italy with Atalanta, who have beaten Inter Milan and Roma to the £21 million signing.

It means they will go into the season with Michail Antonio as their No.9 once again

West Ham have made a loss on Scamacca, who is the 51st forward they have signed since 2010. There have been some almighty flops along the way, as 20 out of the 51 players failed to score a single goal for the club.

Benni McCarthy, Mido, Marouane Chamakh, Mladen Petric, Simone Zaza, Jordan Hugill and Albian Ajeti all drew a blank.

Andy Carroll scored 34 times in 142 appearances for the Hammers after making a club-record £15 million switch and you might have forgotten that West Ham brought Carlton Cole back on a free just months after releasing him.

Diafra Sakho had a solid season in 2015/15 and looked a real gem after hitting 10 goals in the Premier League, but a bit further line and it was Marko Arnautovic who led the line very well, scoring 22 times in 65 appearances across two seasons.

Emmanuel Emenike and Lucas Perez didn't do the business and nor did many others, eventually leading to West Ham smashing their transfer record for Sebastien Haller.

The Ivory Coast striker joined for £45 million from Eintracht Frankfurt and scored seven goals in his first season before joining Ajax in an £18.8 million switch halfway through his second campaign.

He became Erling Haaland's replacement at Borussia Dortmund and overcame testicular cancer to return to football.

Jarrod Bowen has been a reliable source of goals for West Ham and after a 18-goal campaign in 2021/22, his 13th goal of the season was the last-gasp winner in the Europa Conference League final against Fiorentina.
