Premier League final day to make history ahead of new kit rule impacting every team

The rule will come into play at the start of the 2026/27 Premier League campaign.

History will be made on the final day of the Premier League season ahead of a new rule coming to play next season.

Arsenal have already wrapped up the title with a game to spare after Manchester City's draw with Bournemouth and will lift the trophy for the first time in 2022 years after the trip to Crystal Palce on Sunday.

There are still European places to confirm, as well as the final relegation spot - which will go to either West Ham or Spurs depending on their results.

All games on the 38th and final matchday of the campaign kick off at the same time and serve as a historic occasion.

That's because it will be the final time that the logos from gambling companies will be seen on the front of Premier League shirts.

Betting brands have long been synonymous with English football, particularly in the Premier League since its inception in 1992.

But in April 2023, the Premier League confirmed gambling sponsorship would be removed in a bid to crack down on the advertising.

A statement at the time read: "Premier League clubs have today collectively agreed to withdraw gambling sponsorship from the front of clubs' matchday shirts, becoming the first sports league in the UK to take such a measure voluntarily in order to reduce gambling advertising.

"The announcement follows an extensive consultation involving the League, its clubs and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport as part of the Government's ongoing review of current gambling legislation.

"The Premier League is also working with other sports on the development of a new code for responsible gambling sponsorship.

"To assist clubs with their transition away from shirt-front gambling sponsorship, the collective agreement will begin at the end of the 2025/26 season."

Which clubs need to change shirt sponsors?

The change comes into play from the first game in the 2026/27 campaign and does not apply to shirt sleeves or advertising hoardings at stadiums.

In the 2025/26 season, a total of 11 clubs out of 20 had betting brands as the primary shirt sponsor.

Aston Villa, Brentford, Crystal Palace, Fulham and Everton are among those who require a new sponsor next season.

Last month, Matt Hughes of The Guardian reported that nine clubs had failed secure front-of-shirt commercial deals for next season and there could be scenario where multiple begin the campaign without a main sponsor.

Bournemouth's stadium sponsor Vitality will move on to the front of their shirt after an announcement from the club - who are the only one to confirm a replacement

Brentford are set to have the job search website Indeed on their strips after it was plastered on the club's training shirts.

The pair of sponsorships are set to be a lot less lucrative, though Everton and Fulham are both poised to be sponsored by the foreign exchange trader CMC markets and see an increase on their respective deals with Stake and SBOBet.

All the remaining clubs with betting sponsors are still on the market, which is now said to be going at a much lower rate because of the gambling advertising ban.
