Premier League club 'demand record £86m compensation fee' for manager in move that could impact Man Utd

The fee is more than what Real Madrid paid to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United.

A Premier League club have reportedly demanded £86 million in compensation for their manager after an approach by Bayern Munich.

The German giants remain on the search for a manager to replace the outgoing Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season.

Bayern have been linked with Xabi Alonso and Julian Nagelsmann, but both managers turned down approaches to remain with Bayer Leverkusen and Germany respectively.

Former Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick then rejected the role, and will stay with the Austria national team.

Now, the latest reports have linked Bayern with current United boss Erik ten Hag, with Sky Sports claiming they have sounded out Ten Hag's agent to gauge his interest in such a move.

But according to the Daily Mail, Bayern have already approached another Premier League manager - only to see their approach flatly denied.

The Bavarians are said to have been keen on appointing Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner, who has impressed since his arrival at Selhurst Park in February.

Palace have won five of their last six Premier League games, including a 4-0 thrashing of United, and Bayern put together a compensation package reportedly worth £15.5 million.

However, Eagles chairman Steve Parish turned that down, and said to have demanded a world-record £86 million fee to allow Glasner, who is contracted until 2026, to leave.

Unsurprisingly, Bayern rejected the counter-offer - for context, the sum is more than the then world-record £80 million transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United to Real Madrid in 2009.

The record for the highest compensation fee belongs to the £22 million Chelsea gave to Brighton to appoint Graham Potter in 2022.

Bayern may now move back in for United boss Ten Hag, who is under pressure amid a poor run of results.

In turn, United themselves could potentially swooping for Tuchel if the Dutchman does leave the club, with the former Chelsea boss favourite to become the next man in charge at Old Trafford.
