A former Wrexham star has revealed that he brutally ignored both Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac after the pair cut him from the squad.

Ever since Wrexham was bought by North American actors Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds back in November 2020, the Welsh club have become one of the biggest stories in football.

Since the pair's arrival, Wrexham have secured incredible back-to-back promotions from League Two all the way up the Championship, where they currently sit 14th in the table.

However, on the way up the the second division, the club have had to make some brutal calls regarding which players were good enough to stay with them each season.

Former Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher spent two years with the Red Dragons and was part of the side that secured seal back-to-back promotions to the Championship.

Across 77 appearances for Wrexham, Fletcher scored a total of 16 goals with one assist, but was suddenly released over the summer, leading to him deciding to announce his retirement from football.

The club claimed that squad size considerations and the increased demands of the Championship was why they could offer the 39-year-old a new contract.

And now, the former Scotland international has spoken out to reveal that he was son angry after the decision that he refused to speak to either Reynolds or Mac.

Speaking on Ben Foster's Fozcast, Fletcher said: “Looking back now, it was probably the right decision from the club with the amount of players that we had, but it took me a while to get over it.

“I was angry for a good few weeks. I’m quite a chilled guy, but I blanked a few phone calls for a while.

"Obviously, people from the club tried to call me after they found out and I was like, ‘I am not ready to talk to you’.

“Rob and Ryan both called me after, but I did blank a few calls to start with.

“I got on really well with both of them, but I didn’t want them to get the brunt of [my anger]. I did calm down then and Rob texted me and said, ‘Let me know when you want to speak’."

Eventually, Fletcher tried got in touch with his former bosses and met in person to clear the air.

He added: “I think they understood. I spoke to Rob, and then me and Ryan missed each other back and forward for a while.

“I was missing his calls and then he was missing mine. Then I’m thinking that he’s thinking I’m blanking him.

“We met up in person, me and Ryan, and he was like, ‘Did you not want to speak to me?’ I was like, ‘No, of course not’.
