Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher named their Premier League teams of the season so far as they agreed on eight players.

After Liverpool beat Newcastle United 4-2 on Monday, Neville and Carragher clashed on Sky Sports as they selected their teams of the season so far.

But they were able to agree on eight players before making their cases for the other three selections.

Neville and Carragher both picked Trent Alexander-Arnold, William Saliba, Virgil van Dijk, Destiny Udogie, Declan Rice, Mohamed Salah, Jarrod Bowen and Son Heung-min.

But the former Manchester United captain opted for another forward as he shoehorned Erling Haaland into his XI. He also went for Rodri and Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

As for the Liverpool legend, his remaining players included Liverpool stopper Alisson, Chelsea's Cole Palmer and Manchester City's Bernardo Silva.

Carragher took aim at Neville's XI on Sky Sports, stating that it was going to be 'the narrowest team' he's ever seen in his life before adding 'there's absolutely no width whatsoever'.

Naturally, Neville hit back: "I think my team would beat your team, Jamie. We'd streamroller that lot."

Both pundits failed to pick any Man United players while Neville didn't include anyone from Chelsea either, saying: "I couldn't pick any one from Manchester United or Chelsea just because how bad they've been."

Carragher, however, argued for Palmer, who has starred for the Blues this season and couldn't believe Neville didn't select Silva.

He said: "I can't believe you've not picked Bernardo Silva, I just think he's sensational every season. And Cole Palmer, you said you can't pick a certain player because a team hasn't done so well, but that for me elevates Cole Palmer.

"His performances this season, he's been Chelsea's best player by a mile, yes that's not too difficult. But I think Palmer has been one of the players of the season."

Neville fired back: "I can't believe you've not picked Rodri in that midfield.

"I love Bernardo Silva and I think Cole Palmer's a great talent. I couldn't pick anyone for Chelsea or United, I just wrote them off. But Silva, I couldn't get him in ahead of any of my front four players; Haaland for me is the best striker in the world along with Harry Kane, he's the top scorer in the league."
