Pep Guardiola is expected to leave Manchester City before they discover whether or not they will be charged by the Premier League for alleged financial misconduct.

The Premier League have acussed the club of over 100 counts of misconduct, with acts of financial misconduct said to have taken place between the 2009/10 season and the 2017/18 season.

The accusations come following a four-year investigation into the club by the Premier League. City remain adamant that they are clear of any wrongdoing, with the case set to be heard by an independent commission, chaired by Arsenal fan Murray Rosen KC.

The nature of the charges mean that any immediate resolution is almost impossible, with the case set to be stretched out over many months.

As such, the club expect that Pep Guardiola - who has been tipped for an immediate move away from the club after comments he made during UEFA's investigation in 2020 - will no longer be in charge of the side by the time that any potential charges land at their doorstep.

Whilst the club aren't thought to have any concerns regarding the immediate future of the Spaniard, the Athletic reports that they do not believe that Guardiola will be around to deal with any sanctions.

Pep Guardiola joined Manchester City ahead of the 2016/17 campaign and has won nine major honours during his time in East Manchester, including four Premier League titles. His side currently sit five points adrift of league leaders Arsenal.

The 52-year-old recently signed a two-year contract extension with the club, one which is set to keep him at the helm until 2025.

There are a range of possible sanctions that could be applied to the club should they be deemed guilty of financial wrongdoings, including fines, a points deduction or even an expulsion from the English Football League.
