Why PSG might fail to sell Neymar in summer transfer window, despite Premier League interest

Why PSG might fail to sell Neymar in summer transfer window, despite Premier League interest

Neymar’s PSG future has been plunged into doubt this season and the club are reportedly keen to sell him in the summer transfer window.

Paris Saint-Germain are concerned that they could struggle to offload Brazil winger Neymar in the summer transfer window, according to stunning reports in France.

Neymar has been ruled out for the remainder of the PSG season after he picked up an ankle injury in his side’s 4-3 win over Lille at the Parc des Princes in February.

The 31-year-old PSG superstar requires surgery on the aforementioned ankle injury, with Neymar out for three to four months before he can return to club training.

“Neymar Jr has sustained a number of instances of instability in his right ankle in recent years,” PSG said in a statement.

“Following his latest sprain on 20 February, the Paris Saint-Germain medical staff recommended a ligament repair operation to avoid a major risk of recurrence.

“All the experts consulted have confirmed this necessity. The surgery will be performed in the next few days at the ASPETAR hospital in Doha.

“It will take 3 to 4 months before he can return to training with the team.”

Neymar, who is under contract with PSG until 2025, has been linked with a summer move away from the French capital in recent months.

PSG are reportedly ready to slash their asking price for the former Barcelona star, with a trio of Premier League clubs previously linked with a move for Neymar.

According to Le Parisien, the defending Ligue 1 champions now fear that selling Neymar could prove to be trickier than initially expected.

The French newspaper reports that PSG are concerned that the Brazil international could fail a potential medical at a new club due to his injury track record.

Neymar has often struggled to maintain a consistently long run in the PSG starting XI due to fitness problems and his proneness to injuries.

The PSG forward, who is still a world-record transfer following his move from Barcelona in 2017, is reportedly earning a whopping £606,000 per week at the club.

It is believed that Neymar is keen to remain at the Parisian-based club, despite intense transfer interest from the Premier League.
