Lionel Messi's father has dismissed claims he has spoken to Paris Saint-Germain over the transfer of the Barcelona star.

Messi's future is up in the air as he nears the end of his Barcelona contract which expires next summer.

Manchester City are thought to be interested in signing the six-time Ballon d'Or winner, not to mention Paris Saint-Germain.

Reports even claimed PSG made contact with Messi's father, Jorge, about a potential deal.

But Jorge, who also acts as his son's agent, has rubbished reports he's spoken to the French giants.

He took to social media to brand the report as "fake news".

Messi made a dramatic U-turn and pledged to see out his Barcelona deal despite a public dispute with then president Josep Maria Bartomeu, who resigned last month.

Though he's expected to call time on his career at the Camp Nou at the end of the season.

City appear to be the favourites to land the 33-year-old with the Premier League club missing out on the Argentine during the summer transfer window.

However, they could revive their pursuit in January according to the Telegraph, who say the Blues may make a move for him at the start of 2021 when he is free to hold talks with other clubs.

City's chief operating officer, Omar Berrada, recently stated that Messi is still being considered at the Etihad Stadium.

"I think any club in the world would like to explore the possibility of him joining their team," he said.

"He's probably an exception to potential investments that we'd do."

Messi, of course, worked with City boss Pep Guardiola at Barcelona, winning three La Liga titles and two Champions Leagues during their prolific time together.
