Jurgen Klopp's January Just Got Even More Frustrating

Jurgen Klopp's January Just Got Even More Frustrating

It's not been the best month for the Liverpool boss

One win in seven games since the turn of the year has left Liverpool 10 points adrift of Premier League leaders Chelsea and out of the EFL Cup, following Wednesday night's 1-0 defeat to Southampton in the semi-final, second leg.

And things have just taken another negative turn for Jurgen Klopp.

Many media outlets had heavily linked Liverpool with a move for Spartak Moscow winger Quincy Promes, with a deal seemingly set to be completed this month. With just four days of the transfer window remaining, though, the Dutchman remains in the Russian capital and Jurgen Klopp remains frustrated at his board's lack of progression in the transfer market.

Worse still, Promes has now told the press in a recent interview that he is not thinking about other clubs and remains committed to Spartak, with no apparent move on the horizon for the 25-year-old.

Speaking to Sport Express, Promes said, "I never thought about other clubs. Never. Some things were said, but I do not know about that.

"I just know that I play for Spartak, and people who really know me understand this.

"Yes, [Klopp] says he wants me [at Liverpool], because he likes me as a player. That's what he said.

"I talked with him, of course. But it wasn't about Liverpool. We're just friends. I repeat: everyone who knows me understands what I think, and fans of Spartak know and remember what I said."

The Reds had also been linked with the likes of Julian Draxler, Christian Pulisic and Julian Brandt, but they have all either moved to different clubs or committed their futures to their current clubs over the past month.

Jurgen Klopp must be counting down the days until his miserable January is finally over.
