The Three Players Most Likely To Break Transfer World Record According To Transfer Expert

The Three Players Most Likely To Break Transfer World Record According To Transfer Expert

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano believes Erling Haaland, Lautaro Martinez and Kylian Mbappe are the three players most likely to break the transfer world record in the near future.

Currently the most expensive deal in the history of football is Neymar's £198 million transfer from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain three years back.

Big money has been spent across European football since but no deal has surpassed that figure. However, with a whole host of exceptional talents on their way to stardom, there's reason to believe it won't be too long before we have a new record deal.

Still only 20, Haaland's stock has continued to rise after scoring 18 goals in 20 games for Borussia Dortmund following his January switch.

Inter star Martinez has long been linked with a mega move to Barcelona, while boy-wonder Mbappe is already the second most expensive player having joined PSG from Monaco for a whopping £166 million.

And Romano, seen as the go-to source for transfer news, tips the trio to make history in the coming years.

He told SPORTbible: "I think a player like [Erling] Haaland, who is so young and has already moved for €25 million, he has a release clause for €75 million - can break the record. To predict one I would say him because I love him as a player, his style and mentality. He's a machine, a robot.

"His [Haaland's] agent Mino Raiola is a phenomenal seller and he will try with many clubs. I have to mention Kylian Mbappe, the Ballon d'Or winner of the future.

"He also has great possibilities of breaking the record. In my opinion Real Madrid will try for him in the future.

"I think Mbappe, Lautaro and Haaland can be the players who break the record."

Mbappe, already with over 100 career goals and a World Cup winners medal under his belt at 21, would appear to be best-placed to usurp his teammate Neymar.

It's believed there is no indication of Mbappe extending his contract in the French capital beyond 2022.
