Pace and speed are two extremely important attributes on FIFA 17. How many times does your winger with 92 acceleration leave defenders in their wake? It's probably the same amount as the number of occasions when your opponent's forward breezes past your painfully slow central defender.
Courtesy of professional FIFA player BorasLegend, a smart little trick has emerged that gives you an advantage when you are the attacker in this pivotal 1v1 situations.
In order to make the very most of the speed your attacking players have in their lock, you need to be doing a fair bit of button-bashing while they are on the ball.

The first step is to do a little ball-roll - a fairly basic trick to pull off in the game.
Then you've got to follow it up by clicking L1 or LB, depending on what your console of choice is.
Next you need to press and hold the button you use to sprint, RT on Xbox or RB on PS4, and aim the left analog stick in the opposite direction of the direction of the ball-roll.
If all goes well, you should be bypassing defenders with relative ease.

As you'll see, it's not a FIFA hack or anything like that but it seems to be an easy enough maneuver to pull off on a regular basis. BorasLegend uses it to great effect many times in the tutorial and also says that it is the go-to skill for a number of the best players in the world.
It will probably take a bit of getting used to but it's definitely worth a bash if you want to up your game when you're playing against your mates or online.
