The fact that many have overlooked this magnificent assist from Lionel Messi is testament to the man himself. It has become the norm for him to produce such genius so whenever it does happen, the majority mark it down as another 'Messi moment'.

This stroke of genius however, deserves huge acclaim. We know he can produce the goods on a weekly basis but this was something extra special.

Messi has now registered 199 assists as a Barcelona player and this was perhaps his greatest yet.

Lofting a perfectly weighted ball into the feet of Jordi Alba, the 30-year-old's wand of a left foot produced the assist of the season thus far. We know you want to see it from four different angles, so here goes:

Alba ensured Barcelona's unbeaten start to the season remained intact with a sublime equaliser against second-placed.

Valencia went 1-0 up through Rodrigo in on the hour mark, though Barcelona should have had a first-half goal from Lionel Messi, whose strike crossed the line but was not given.

The Blaugrana were frustrated for large spells but did eventually level matters in glorious fashion. Messi threaded through an utterly disgusting pass for Alba to latch on to and the former Valencia man supplied a brilliant acrobatic finish.

Here's how Twitter reacted to Messi's genius:

Take a bow, Lionel Messi.
