Lionel Messi was once again 'saved' by his personal bodyguard after yet another supporter invaded the pitch and headed straight for him.

During Inter Miami's 3-2 victory over Sporting KC, in which Messi found the net, the 36-year-old was approached by a fan midway through the second half.

Pictures from MLS showed his personal bodyguard flying across the pitch to his aid before tackling the unlucky supporter to the ground.

It's not the first time we have seen such images, with security for the former Barcelona superstar currently at an all-time high.

Fans from around the world have rumoured to have spent thousands of dollars in order to catch a glimpse of the World Cup winner in MLS action.

Ever since his mammoth move to the USA, it seems more and more eyes are being cast on the ever-rising popularity of the sport.

With a swarm of new viewers, chances are the 'Messimania' is likely to show no signs of letting up.

Now joined by former Barcelona team-mates Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, Messi's influence continues to bring a fresh audience to the sport.

Having joined from Paris Saint-Germain back in 2023, Messi's decision to move to the US is one he says was the right call.

“I feel very happy here," said the eight-time Ballon D'Or winner upon signing for Inter Miami.

"I said it at the beginning, it was a place I chose to come to.

“It was a decision we took with time. It wasn’t from one day to the next, and that makes this all easier.

"We are in the place we want to be and it was our decision, so it makes it easier and simpler."

Inter Miami currently find themselves top of the Eastern Conference division after nine games played.

Having won the Leagues Cup in 2023, Gerardo Martino's side have been in fine form to start the campaign and face Nashville SC next weekend.
