Manchester United fans have had no hesitation in arguing that Bruno Fernandes is a 'better midfielder' than Frank Lampard during his prime at Chelsea.

Fernandes, 26, has become an instrumental figure in Manchester United's success since his £47m arrival from Sporting CP last January.

And the Portuguese star's blistering form has carried over to this season as he has scored an impressive 22 times and registered 13 assists in 37 matches.

Fernandes is in a strong position to potentially break Lampard's record for the most goals scored by a midfielder in a single Premier League season.

Chelsea legend Lampard, 42, made 36 appearances in the 2009-10 season and scored 22 times and registered 14 assists.

Fernandes, meanwhile, has currently made 25 appearances and scored 15 times and picked up 10 assists.

While the United star hasn't matched or broken Lampard's record, it hasn't stopped United fans from bragging about Fernandes' midfield influence.

In fact, Red Devils supporters have taken to social media to argue that Fernandes is a better 'goalscoring midfielder than Lampard ever was.'

Lampard, who is Chelsea's record all-time scorer, had a legendary playing career and is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in history alongside Steven Gerrard and Paul Scholes.

Fernandes, who scored his 15th Premier League goal of the season on the weekend, has been praised frequently for his form and impact at United.

Dirk Kuyt suggested that Donny van de Beek has been "very unfortunate" at United due to Fernandes being the best player in the world in that position.

The 40-year-old former Liverpool star explained: "I think Donny has been very unfortunate because there are no better players than Fernandes in the world at the moment and he's playing in his position.

"I think Donny van de Beek has shown in the Champions League how good a player he is so his time will come."
