Bruno Fernandes Praised For ‘Assist Of The Season’ Against Newcastle

Manchester United's assist machine is at it again...

Manchester United fans are cheekily lauding Bruno Fernandes for his "assist of the season" in the buildup to Dan James' goal against Newcastle.

The Portuguese playmaker has been in sensational form since he joined from Sporting CP just over a year ago. He boasted a combined 52 goals + assists for Man United going into the Premier League match against Newcastle.

Now the 26-year-old has officially added yet another assist to his total - after he stretched to reach (but barely touched) Nemanja Matic's cross, which landed at the feet of James, who controlled the ball and fired home.

In truth Fernandes' contribution to the goal - which put Man United into a 2-1 lead in the second half - was pretty much nothing. Unless we count him distracting defenders with his failed lunge for the ball.

But he clearly got some contact, as the Fantasy Premier League have already credited him with the assist.

On top of that, Bruno then made a far more decisive contribution to a Man United goal by slotting home a 75th-minute penalty to make it 3-1 to his side, which ended up as the final score at Old Trafford.

That left United fans and a lot of FPL managers to rejoice: yet another goal - plus the earlier assist - to add to the Portuguese ace's ever-growing total.

Earlier in the game, Marcus Rashford's solo strike had given Manchester United the lead, before Allan Saint-Maximin capitalised on a poor Harry Maguire clearance to equalise.

But Man United - and that man Fernandes - took the game away from Newcastle in the second half.
