Manchester United have announced they have agreed a deal to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

The club have released a statement on their website which reads:

"Manchester United is delighted to announced it has reached agreement with Sporting Clube de Portugal for the transfer of Bruno Fernandes.

"The deal is subject to a medical and the agreement of personal terms.

"A further announcement will be made in due course."

United fans will be delighted they have finally got their man who they have been chasing since last summer.

Sporting have taken to Twitter to post a video tribute to the 25-year-old who departs after three years at the club.

Fernandes becomes the fourth player to join United from Sporting Lisbon, following in the footsteps of Nani, Marcos Rojo and club legend Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 25-year-old becomes United's first signing of the January transfer window and it's come in a position they've needed fresh blood in.

Long-term injuries to Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay have depleted United's midfield as they aim to get into the top four.

A deal had been rumoured to be off the cards last week due to interference from United co-owner Joel Glazer.

However, it was reported last night that a deal between the two sides had been agreed a fee in the realm of €55 million.

Other clauses in the deal include €5m for Champions League qualification, €15m for individual achievements as well as 10% from any future sale.

There are also £20 million worth of add-ons meaning the deal could advance up to £68 million.

United take on rivals Manchester City in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final later this evening.

Fernandes could potentially make his debut at Old Trafford this weekend when United welcome Wolves for the late kick-off.

Do you think Fernandes can help United get into the top four this season?
