Barcelona appeared to ruthlessly mock Real Madrid over their Champions League elimination on Friday.

Real Madrid were knocked out of the Champions League by Manchester City who beat the Spanish champions 4-2 on aggregate.

And Barcelona wasted no time in responding to their defeat in Manchester as they took to social media to aim a thinly-veiled dig.

The Catalan club shared a clip of Gerard Pique and fans believe they were poking fun at Raphael Varane who produced two costly errors against City.

Barcelona's message on Twitter didn't go unnoticed by fans.

One social media user wrote: "Varane disaster class and you post this? My admin."

A second tweeted: "So Piqué is one of the admins."

A third added: "Lmaoooooo Barca are rutheless."

Varane owned up after his calamitous errors and apologised to his teammates during his post-match interview.

The Frenchman spoke honestly following his side's defeat to City.

"I wanted to show my face. I got it wrong, this is on me, and we are out," he said.

"I am sorry for my teammates. I am sad that we are out. This has not happened many times in my career."

He added: "Now we must show character, because it has been a hard night."
