Man City fans slam 'embarrassing' Real Madrid star as incident spotted in Champions League clash

Manchester City fans voiced their anger with one Real Madrid player after the first half of their Champions League clash at the Etihad.

City and Madrid went head-to-head in their quarter-final second leg in Manchester on Wednesday night, with the tie finely poised at 3-3 after the first leg in Spain.

City were favourites heading into the reverse fixture but found themselves behind early on.

Brazil international Vinicius Jr set up his compatriot Rodrygo to put the visitors ahead after his initial shot was well saved by City goalkeeper Ederson.

Pep Guardiola's side pushed for an equaliser but were unable to find it before the break.

There was a tense moment in the closing stages of the half when City winger Jack Grealish and Vinicius collided just outside the Madrid box.

Vinicius was unhappy with Grealish and appeared to make a diving gesture towards the England international with his hand.

He was the second Madrid player to accuse Grealish of diving, with Dani Carvajal also claiming it earlier in the half.

City fans were quick to voice their anger at Vinicius, who himself has been accused of simulation in the past.

"Acting like he doesn't do it himself," posted one fan.

"Vinicius accusing anyone of diving is a fantastic joke," wrote a second fan.

While another added: "Vinicius is embarrassing yet again."

Grealish has previously defended himself from accusations of diving, although he has admitted he sometimes goes down easily to win free-kicks.

Speaking back in 2020 during his time with Aston Villa, he said: "I get so much stick on social media from opposition fans when they say I go down too easily, which at times I probably do but that's just the player I am and the team I'm in at the moment.

"We're not the biggest possession-based team in the league, sometimes we're a team that needs to slow the game down.

"It's part of my game, what I've got to do. We're good from set-pieces.

"That's not saying I dive at all - there's a difference between winning fouls and diving."
